Trace Armory Group has launched Rural Riflecraft™, a defensive rifle course tailored for responsible firearm owners in rural and mixed terrain environments. Unlike urban-focused training, the course addresses open ground, longer distances, limited cover, and delayed emergency response times. It emphasizes lawful defensive decision-making, intelligent terrain use, and disciplined rifle employment.
Lead instructor John Boyette stated that rural defense demands a unique mindset due to distance, visibility, and terrain factors. The training teaches students to manage distance, build stable shooting positions without artificial support, move responsibly across open areas, and consider relevant legal and ethical issues. Classes are held at Eastwood Outfitters range in Derby, NC, near Pinehurst, and are now open to the public with registration available online.
