When Czechoslovakia joined the Warsaw Pact, the nation could have adopted the Soviet AK-47. Instead, it opted for its own homegrown 7.62 rifle, the vz. 58. Ever since its adoption in 1958, the vz. 58 became the quality answer to the AK for worldwide consumption.
