A nearly $30,000 gift from The More Like Wynne Foundation will bring hands-on outdoor education to more than 18,000 students across 36 elementary schools and 8 middle schools in the Richardson Independent School District. The donation, recognized August 5 at Moss Haven Elementary, expands the Outdoors Tomorrow Foundation’s Outdoor Adventures curriculum beyond high school to include every elementary and middle school in RISD.

The program honors Wynne Naylor, a former Lake Highlands Elementary student who died last summer. Wynne’s family established the foundation to carry forward her curiosity and love of the outdoors. The curriculum covers fishing, compass navigation, map reading, wildlife identification and survival skills, with physical education coaches receiving professional training before introducing lessons to students.

RISD Superintendent Tabitha Branum said the initiative will provide life-changing experiences for students who may not otherwise have access to outdoor equipment or activities. The program connects practical skills with conservation education, aiming to develop problem-solving abilities, confidence and an appreciation for natural resources among participants.
