Atlas Athena V3 Review: The 2011 Project

Listen to Article

Atlas Gunworks has released the Athena V3, a 9mm double-stack 1911-style pistol on its updated platform that accepts a wide range of optics. The firm, founded by USPSA competitor Adam Nilson and machinist Tod West after training with IPSC champion Al Zitta, also makes parts and magazines used across the 2011 market.

A reviewer given a sample called the gun well constructed, with a crisp sub-two-pound trigger and a robust optic mount that held a Trijicon SRO without issue. Recoil felt snappier than some peers, the grip texture proved less secure in humidity, and the package did not stand out enough to match a price above 6500 dollars in a crowded field.

The 2011 Project series next examines the Dark Forge Reaper.
