Jake Auchincloss has spent campaign funds on a 30-second ad backing Massachusetts Question 9. The Boston Globe reported Friday that the former Marine captain from Newton appears putting together a replica rifle and says the question retains ghost-gun and assault-weapon limits while helping police.

The vote would block repeal of Chapter 135 of the Acts of 2024, a statute that opens extreme-risk orders to school administrators and healthcare providers, requires serial numbers on unfinished frames plus privately made firearms, and raises the age to 21 for certain rifles.

Historic Arms LLC president Len Savage observed that only the receiver falls under federal transfer rules. Serial numbering of all firearms arrived with the 1968 Gun Control Act; Revolutionary War gunsmiths did not serialize private arms.
