A writer is beginning a series that will run 21 double-stack 1911 pistols through the same tests over several months, covering every price level from cheap Turkish imports to custom guns that cost five figures.

The author spent all of 2026 on the work after nearly 13 years in retail firearms, mostly managing a busy licensed dealer, dealing with buyers, training sales staff, and opening stores. More than 20 pistols are available, including customs from Dark Forge and Atlas.

Each pistol will receive at least 400 rounds, though some may get more as time allows. The project uses reviews, comparisons, history, and insider talks to give readers a sorting tool for the market.
