The Supreme Court held that prosecuting Ali Hemani of Texas for firearm possession as an unlawful marijuana user violated the Second Amendment. An opinion by Justice Neil Gorsuch, which seven justices joined and two others supported only as to the outcome, found his cannabis use by itself did not justify removing the right, given no violence, addiction or firearm misuse. The statute was left intact overall, every user was not labeled dangerous, and limits may still reach those intoxicated while armed, addicted or shown to pose a risk, with Congress free to write narrower rules.
