The National Rifle Association board met in Northern Virginia from September 16 to 19 and took up several bylaw amendments, including a plan to shrink the board. The president brought that plan forward without first routing it through the Special Committee on Organization.

Committee chair Amanda Suffecool moved to send the plan back to the committee for further study and recommendations. The board approved her motion by a large majority. The committee, already charged with examining board makeup, is now assembling questions, surveying directors and association members, and arranging meetings that committee members will fund themselves, with possible follow-up at the January board meeting.
