California lawmakers are moving Assembly Bill 1753, which would require anyone under a gun violence restraining order to turn over ammunition they possess or control as well as any firearms.

Starting January 1, 2028, courts would have to allow parties and witnesses to appear remotely at no cost in hearings on postsecondary school or workplace violence restraining orders, write rules for those appearances, post the rules on their websites, and accept related filings electronically.

Peace officers would also have to take temporary custody of ammunition found in plain view or during a search conducted under the order.
