I Needed Self-Defense Coverage: Why I Chose ‘Right to Bear’

▶
Listen to Article

Right to Bear, a South Carolina membership group founded in 2021, sells legal protection for lawful self-defense rather than insurance. President Frank Cannon said the group has refused coverage only three times, including after-the-fact signups and incidents that were not justified.

After a use of force, staff connect members to lawyers, offer counseling of up to 40 sessions, and stay in contact, with an emergency line staffed even on Christmas. Benefits include civil defense costs without paying lost judgments, appeals, lost wages, seized-gun replacement, a $25,000 cap on emergency-risk-protection-order attorney fees, and coverage for paid armed roles such as church security.

Annual family membership costs about $375 nationwide, and pastors who run worship or school security teams recently received a 50 percent lifetime discount.
