Hunter Nation Celebrates Trump Executive Order to Delist the Gray Wolf from the Endangered Species Act

Listen to Article

Hunter Nation, a hunting heritage group in Mission, Kansas, hailed a Trump executive order that starts a review of whether gray wolves and Mexican wolves should leave or drop in rank under the Endangered Species Act.

The order tells Interior to judge if those wolves meet delisting or downlisting rules and to open that process, stating that gray wolf numbers have already passed federal recovery targets. It also tells Interior and Agriculture to revise rancher payments for predator losses and to loosen lethal removal approval when needed. The group said wolves in the Great Lakes and West have grown far past old recovery goals, cut elk and deer numbers, killed livestock, and put pets and rural work at risk.

Founder Keith Mark and board member Ted Nugent both credited the president for the move.
