Vermont designates Labor Day weekend as Free Mentored Fishing Weekend, running September 5 to 7. Licensed anglers may bring up to four unlicensed companions aged 15 and older. Vermont already allows anyone under 15 to fish without a license.

Summer and winter free fishing days instead serve families that already fish. Fish and Wildlife Commissioner Jason Batchelder invites experienced anglers to share the activity with adults who never fished or last did so as children.
