Finland's Defence Forces and Varjo launched a joint effort on 29 October 2026 to create mixed-reality training against unmanned aerial threats. A brigade-level unit is testing the Varjo XR-4 Series headset, which delivers visual sharpness needed to practice responses to a five-inch FPV drone at authentic distances. Work on the arrangement began in February 2026.
The collaboration addresses the persistent danger posed by small FPV systems and loitering munitions, as seen in Ukraine, by offering repeatable sessions that spare real assets. Timo Toikkanen of Varjo and Major Ville Kuparinen from the FDF Innovation Unit expressed support for aligning Finnish tech with military requirements.
