The Vickers MG Collection and Research Association held its first major exhibition at Bisley Camp from 2 to 5 October, using 56 objects to cover the Vickers machine gun's 56 years with the British Army across the First World War, Second World War and Korean War.
The UK charity displayed belt-fed water-cooled Vickers guns and Vickers-Berthier light machine guns on a world map to illustrate worldwide military use and factory production. Exhibits included examples from Portugal, Chile, Egypt, Turkey, Israel, Nepal and the Netherlands plus a rare Colt M1915 Colt-Vickers from the US Army in the First World War, an Irish Army handcart and British-Indian Army Vickers-Berthier guns.
Chief Operations Officer Matt Yates said the public and professionals received the show well and similar events are planned. Videos are available and more information is at www.vickersmg.org.uk.
