LOL: Gun Control Org Claims Cornyn’s Defeat Means Texans are Cool With More Gun Control Laws

Gun control groups are spinning Cornyn’s primary loss as proof that Texans secretly crave more restrictions, but the numbers tell a very different story. The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act was a footnote in a race dominated by border security, inflation, and frustration with federal spending; voters simply chose a candidate who promised to fight harder on those fronts, not one who promised to expand background checks or red-flag laws. By pretending the result was a referendum on gun policy, these organizations reveal how little they understand—or respect—the priorities of a state where constitutional carry passed with overwhelming support and where even Democratic candidates rarely campaign on confiscation schemes.

The real takeaway for the 2A community is that primary voters are increasingly punishing perceived weakness on the right to keep and bear arms rather than rewarding it. Cornyn’s fingerprints on the BCSA made him vulnerable to a challenger who framed the issue as a loyalty test, and that dynamic is now spreading to other states where incumbents once felt safe cutting deals. Gun owners should treat this as both validation and warning: continued vigilance at the ballot box can shift incentives faster than any lawsuit or lobbying campaign, but only if the movement stays focused on primary accountability instead of letting media narratives redefine every election as a gun-control victory.
