History was made twice at the final event of the 2026 Bassmaster Elite season on the St. Lawrence River. 21-year-old Trey McKinney, of Carbondale, Illinois, brought in the heaviest one-day bag of smallmouth bass ever with a monstrous 30-pound, 11-ounce bag on day two of the event. With that monster bag of smallmouth, Trey topped the rest of the talented Elite anglers for the 2026 season to become the youngest-ever Progressive Bassmaster Angler of the Year. Over the four-day event, McKinney caught over 107 pounds of fish mainly using either a dropshot or a jighead minnow, a pair of 7’1” St. Croix spinning rods, either a Legend Tournament Bass LBTS71MF or a Legend X2 LXTS71MF.
