Smith and Wesson agreed to buy Savage Arms for 160 million dollars in stock and cash, uniting two longstanding U.S. gunmakers. The purchase widens Smith and Wesson's range past pistols, revolvers, and modern sporting rifles by adding Savage's bolt-action rifles, hunting guns, and shotguns.
The merged firm becomes the biggest commercial firearms maker in the country, covering pistols, revolvers, rifles, shotguns, and suppressors. Dealers who already stock both lines may find simpler buying through shared distributors and retailers. Founded in 1852 and 1894 respectively, the companies now span hunting, sport shooting, and personal defense with American-made products.
