Aero Precision and Ballistic Advantage Enter Court-Appointed Receivership

Aero Precision and Ballistic Advantage are now under court-appointed receivership following an order entered in Pierce County Superior Court in Washington State on May 5, 2026.

According to a public legal notice published in the Tacoma Daily Index, the court appointed J.S. Held LLC as receiver over the companies and their assets. The notice identifies both Aero Precision and Ballistic Advantage as entities subject to the receivership proceeding.

The receiver is an independent third party appointed by the court to take control of specified assets and operations. Receiverships are generally used when a court determines that outside management is necessary to preserve assets, evaluate financial obligations, or oversee restructuring efforts.

The legal notice advises creditors that claims should be submitted to the receiver and states that it is currently unclear whether assets will be available for distribution to general unsecured creditors.

What Is Known

Based on the court notice, several facts have been established:

  • A receiver has been appointed by the court.
  • J.S. Held LLC is serving as the receiver.
  • Aero Precision and Ballistic Advantage are included in the proceeding.
  • Creditors are being instructed to submit claims.
  • The receiver is now responsible for managing assets covered by the court order.
  • The notice states there is uncertainty regarding potential distributions to general unsecured creditors.

At this time, the public notice does not provide detailed information regarding the underlying financial circumstances that led to the receivership.

What a Receivership Does Not Automatically Mean

A receivership is often associated with financial distress, but it does not automatically mean a company has ceased operations or will be liquidated.

Depending on the circumstances, receiverships can result in:

  • Continued business operations under receiver oversight.
  • Restructuring of debts and obligations.
  • Sale of some or all company assets.
  • Sale of the business as a going concern.
  • Eventual bankruptcy proceedings.
  • Eventual termination of the receivership if financial issues are resolved.

The public notice does not indicate which path this case will ultimately follow.

Potential Industry Impact

Aero Precision has been one of the largest manufacturers of AR-pattern rifles, receivers, and components in the United States. Ballistic Advantage is a well-known barrel manufacturer whose products are sold both directly to consumers and through numerous industry partners.

Because of the companies’ positions within the firearms supply chain, distributors, dealers, vendors, and customers will likely be watching future court filings closely for additional information regarding operations, inventory, fulfillment, warranties, and creditor claims.

At present, no public filing reviewed by Pew Report indicates that either company has ceased operations.

What Comes Next

Several questions remain unanswered:

  • What specific circumstances led to the receivership?
  • Who petitioned the court for the appointment of a receiver?
  • What liabilities and obligations are involved?
  • Will the companies continue normal operations?
  • Will assets be sold or reorganized?
  • Are additional court proceedings expected?

Future court filings and statements from the receiver may provide additional details regarding the status of the companies and any plans for restructuring, continued operation, or asset disposition.

Pew Report will continue monitoring the case as additional information becomes available.
