Hunting: Getting to Minute of Squirrel

▶
Listen to Article

A hunter shot a squirrel at eight yards using open sights on a Ruger Single-Six revolver in .22 Winchester Magnum. The single-action model, produced since 1953 and updated in 1973 with a transfer bar, employed the magnum cylinder instead of its interchangeable .22 Long Rifle cylinder.

Practice set a ten-yard maximum from a supported position for consistent hits on squirrels. Each shot required cocking the hammer, and the short sight radius left little margin for alignment error.

Success required prior practice along with remaining still in the woods.
