Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones announced Tuesday that his office has formed a new unit to investigate firearm dealers and manufacturers and to pursue legal action against firms that violate state law. The Firearms Accountability and Industry Responsibility Unit sits inside the attorney general’s office. The Virginia General Assembly enacted a 2026 law that sets operating standards for firearm industry businesses, after which the unit was established. It will examine companies across the state and may file civil lawsuits seeking damages, repayment of losses, and court orders that halt certain practices.
