Democrat Senate candidate Adam Hamilton of Kansas, founding senior pastor at the Church of the Resurrection, promoted gun restrictions during a September church service. He let Judy Sherry of Grandparents Against Gun Violence address checking homes for guns before children visit and verifying storage.
Hamilton stressed knowing safe storage methods and said Missouri led the country last year in children dying by suicide or killing another after finding a handgun. After talking with a gun store owner about Kansas concealed carry and permits, he approved of training rules but disliked that the state allows carry without a permit as one of 29 such states.
He pointed to his own lack of firing ability to support required training for carriers, sought background checks on every lethal weapon transfer except to family, and backed bills against straw buyers plus closing purchase gaps.
