The Brady Campaign treated the November 3 midterms as a gun-control win after Democrats captured both chambers of Congress. An October Pew Research Center survey found 84 percent of registered voters rated the economy very important to their House and Senate choices, while gun policy ranked tenth of 16 issues at 45 percent, down from 57 percent in a comparable 2022 poll. Among voters backing Democratic congressional candidates, only 40 percent called gun control very important, versus 88 percent for the economy. An NPR/PBS News/Marist poll showed 34 percent of likely voters naming cost of living as their top concern and 33 percent naming preservation of democracy, and registered voters split 46 percent for protecting gun-ownership rights against 49 percent for stricter laws. FBI 2025 data recorded a 9.3 percent drop in violent crime and a murder rate of 4.1 per 100,000, tying the lowest on record, while NSSF estimated 506.1 million civilian firearms through 2023.
