A longtime gun owner who once argued that semiautomatic pistols should be the default defensive choice is now shopping for a revolver to keep as a personal firearm.

He earlier bought a Taurus 82 specifically to teach his wife and children, using knowledge gained when his father instructed him on a Model 10. He still regards semiautomatics as superior for most roles, keeps a 15-round Glock, and rejects magazine limits, yet he no longer treats capacity as decisive for everyday carry because typical defensive uses involve few shots.

He values the mechanical simplicity of revolvers even while acknowledging they can malfunction and usually hold fewer rounds than a similar-size autoloader. He maintains that training can offset slower reloads and that continued buying and use will preserve the design if it is ever needed again.
