New Jersey has asked the Supreme Court to review a Third Circuit ruling that invalidated state limits on certain semiautomatic guns and on magazines exceeding ten rounds. The request follows a conflict with the Ninth Circuit, which allowed California to retain a comparable magazine restriction in Duncan versus Bonta.

Such disagreements among federal appeals courts raise the chance of high-court review. Justices have already placed the California petition on more than twenty-four conference lists since it arrived, a record, without announcing by Tuesday whether they will hear it.
