Trump’s New EO Defends Hunting, Rolls Back Inane Hunting Regulations

Listen to Article

President Donald Trump announced executive orders Thursday that ease some hunting and fishing limits after a Rose Garden dinner with more than 100 hunters, anglers, and outdoor industry officials.

One order directs Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to increase federal land open to hunting and fishing, following an August action that made more than 92 million acres available in 32 states. Burgum attended the dinner without speaking. Another order ends a prior administration ban on traditional lead ammunition and fishing tackle.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation and the National Rifle Association both welcomed the moves, citing public land access, traditional ammunition, hunter recruitment, and conservation.
