The National Crime Victimization Survey for 2025 showed felony violent crime down 25 percent from 2024, with robberies falling 27 percent, aggravated assault 31 percent, rape 13 percent, and overall property crime 19 percent, the steepest one-year drops in 53 years except for rape. John Lott reported those NCVS declines exceeded FBI figures, and the murder rate fell to 4.1 per 100,000 from about 5.1.
Firearm ownership reached about 33 percent of adults personally, with 2.2 million defensive uses a year, and concealed carry among general-election voters rose from 24.3 percent in December 2024 to 30.9 percent in July 2026. Lott attributed the reversal from a 59 percent felony violent increase during 2021-2024 to arrests, prosecutions, and deportations alongside a February 2025 executive order protecting Second Amendment rights.
