Austin police this week recovered six live World War II grenades after a resident found them inside boxes bought at an estate sale. The department bomb squad examined the devices with X-rays, judged them still dangerous, neutralized the hazard, and took them away. Patrol officers first locked down the site and kept nearby residents clear until the specialists arrived. Officials said no crime had occurred and told the public to leave any old military explosives untouched and to call 911.
