On-Body vs. Off-Body Carry | Pros, Cons and Practical Considerations

▶
Listen to Article

Concealed carry practitioners often weigh attaching a holster to a belt or waistband against placing a gun in a purse, pack or similar container. Instructor Grace Torrence notes that body-attached methods keep the weapon with the person and can speed access after practice, yet they may clash with clothing or movement.

Bag methods allow more outfit choices but demand dedicated compartments, extra draw practice and constant watchfulness so the container is not left or snatched. She prefers attachment most days and still uses bags at times, stressing a rigid holster and ongoing training for whichever approach a person selects.

Torrence is a daily carrier, instructor, strength coach and USPSA competitor who holds a master’s in exercise physiology.
