Sharon Jacks, 74, of Ohio has sued Selby General Hospital in Marietta, her surgeon, and other surgical staff after they amputated her left leg on September 19, 2025, instead of performing the planned below-knee removal of her right leg for skin cancer.
She later needed the originally intended limb taken as well to keep the carcinoma from reaching lymph nodes, leaving her without either leg. Records showed the correct side had been marked and the team held two pre-procedure time-outs, yet they still operated on the wrong one.
The 31-page complaint, reported by WBNS, names no dollar amount and asks the court for compensatory and punitive damages covering medical costs, pain, emotional distress, permanent impairment, and lost enjoyment of life. Attorney Brad Layne said everyone in the operating room shares duty to confirm the site before proceeding.
