Giffords, headed by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, objected after the Justice Department announced ATF agents would appear at voting precincts for the election. The group contended this use of the bureau diverges from pursuing violent criminals, gun traffickers, and crimes involving explosives or arson.
Emma Brown, Giffords executive director, called on the administration to drop the plan immediately so personnel can continue community protection. The Reload reported the agents would be present without indicating a complete pause in other ATF work.
