Kaylub Giamanco, a 36-year-old carpenter whose two daughters attend Silver Rail Elementary School, fatally shot an attacker there on October 15, 2026. Police first said a bystander had stopped the assault and named Giamanco the following day as the man who carries a concealed firearm. In a CNN interview he said he heard children pleading with the attacker and then gunfire, after which he concluded he had to go inside because people would die. He later called his mother and told her a man had entered the school, shot children, and that he had looked at the attacker and killed him.
