The gun control lobby recorded nearly 42 million dollars in federal independent expenditures in Tuesday's midterms versus 2.65 million dollars from gun rights groups, a Trace report found, and concentrated on 15 races that yielded Democrat wins in 13 so far.

Giffords spent over 850 thousand dollars in Florida but did not defeat Republican Representative Anna Paulina Luna. Brady Campaign president Kris Brown said the results give Democrats a mandate to enact robust public safety policies addressing American gun violence.

Giffords and Mike Bloomberg-affiliated Everytown for Gun Safety led youth outreach spending ahead of the vote, and Everytown's nonpolitical arm provides grants to The Trace.
