DOJ Now Investigating Permitting Delays in Two Connecticut Towns

▶
Listen to Article

The Justice Department Civil Rights Division is investigating alleged firearm permit delays in Middletown and Waterbury, Connecticut, after a similar review in Pennsauken, New Jersey. Connecticut law requires a decision within eight weeks, but Waterbury applicants have reported six-to-nine-month waits and a 2024 audit found over 1,200 appeals pending as of March with some hearings into February 2027. In September the Board of Firearms Permit Examiners reversed two Waterbury denials and left one standing among 16 cases, and the Supreme Court has cautioned that long waits in shall-issue systems may violate the Second Amendment.
