A 57-year-old Connecticut man who served 30 years for a 1992 felony murder now faces a new murder charge after a Bridgeport shooting that killed a 48-year-old grandfather. Police took Jorge Ortiz into custody Monday following a short chase that ended a weeklong search and charged him with murder plus illegal pistol possession and unlicensed carrying of a pistol in the October 12 death of Nelson Batista. An affidavit describes Ortiz striking the victim's vehicle, starting a fight, and grappling over a handgun before ShotSpotter recorded shots, one hitting Batista in the chest. The police chief said the pair were strangers in a random incident.
