West Jefferson, N.C., saw a short-term rental guest shoot Icon Christen, 33, of Long Branch, New Jersey, near 3 a.m. on October 13 after he allegedly kicked in the occupied door on Sunset Ridge Road. After care at Ashe Memorial Hospital and Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem he survived and was held without bond from October 21 for first-degree burglary as a felony plus assaulting a female. Sheriff B. Phil Howell of Ashe County supported the Second Amendment and protecting family at home; she was not named or charged.
