Normandy police answered a burglary call on August 13 in the 4200 block of Smithfield Place. A man earlier told to leave the property later returned carrying a firearm described as a machine gun; home video showed him holding an apparent Uzi-style submachine gun, and he entered by punching through.

Officers learned en route that the call had become a shooting. They found the man inside with several gunshot wounds, began life-saving efforts, and he was pronounced dead at a hospital. Police did not identify who fired.
