Alaska Acting AG Looking For NFA Remedy

▶
Listen to Article

Alaska Acting Attorney General Cori Mills asked the next legislature to rewrite a statute that still links an affirmative defense for possessing certain restricted firearms and accessories to National Firearms Act registration the federal government has stopped enforcing. Silencer Shop Foundation v. ATF held those registration requirements unconstitutional against the plaintiffs, among them Alaska, after which ATF said sales could proceed with a NICS check only, so Mills directed law enforcement to consult prosecutors before filing charges. She stated the Second Amendment must be protected from federal overreach.
