WSF named Mark Haldane of Zambeze Delta Safaris in Mozambique the 2026 Markhor Award winner, a biennial prize presented with CIC and backed by CBD and IUCN. The news came at CBD COP17 in Yerevan, where Astrid Schomaker took part; he arrived in 1994 after civil war depleted animals, then grew buffalo from 2,300 to about 30,000, brought lions back, and aided locals. WSF, founded 1977 in Bozeman, has spent over $145 million and lifted North American bighorns from 25,000 in the 1950s-60s to more than 85,000 with over 11,000 members.
