FWC Seeks Public Input on Future Management of Oysters in the Big Bend Region

▶
Listen to Article

Florida officials will host public workshops seeking comments on updates to rules governing commercial and recreational collection of wild oysters across Dixie, Levy and Citrus counties. Feedback collected there will help staff polish recommendations on Big Bend oyster management for commission review during 2027. Workshop talks will outline possible shifts including bag tolerances of 11 unattached and 33 attached undersized oysters, a regional commercial endorsement, seasonal bag limits for both harvest types, an October-to-February season, and required harvest reporting.

People missing the events may view a recording afterward at the saltwater workshops site or the agency YouTube channel, and they can also file remarks online through the marine get-involved page.
