The U.S. Space Force and U.S. Special Operations Command activated SPACEFOR-SOC effective October 7 as a component field command, with a ceremony set for November 2 at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida. Colonel Peter Norsky will lead the headquarters there.
It becomes USSOCOM's newest service component alongside the special operations commands of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps. Space capabilities already support those missions, and the activation establishes a lasting Space Force structure for them.
The Space Force has already created components for other combatant commands in a Department of War effort to operationalize space effects in every domain.
