NIOA Group managing director and chief executive Rob Nioa voiced approval on 7 October 2026 after the firm was named a likely primary occupant of a planned Western Australian site for defence production and advanced manufacturing.

Premier Roger Cook, who also oversees defence industries, and assisting minister Amber-Jade Sanderson announced the same day that five companies are advancing memorandums of understanding.
