Twenty five years after hijacked airliners struck the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and another crashed in a Pennsylvania field, deaths among rescue workers and nearby residents keep climbing. The attacks killed 2977 people at those three locations.

More than 9000 people who joined rescue and cleanup work have died since then. Over 154000 people have joined the World Trade Center Health Program, and 10000 names were added last year. Residents and workers exposed to the toxic debris have developed illnesses linked to that exposure.
