Rotary Wing Riflery: Helicopter Interdiction Tactics with Maxim Defense

▶
Listen to Article

A helicopter flew low at 60 knots over Carolina as a shooter stood facing outward on the skids, secured by a safety strap, and fired a Maxim Defense SDX RFLX rifle in 300 Blackout. Floating circles and beach balls served as targets in a pond.

The shooter used an EOTech optic and applied a 10-foot right offset to account for the aircraft speed. The first round fell short of a circle, but the next two landed inside it before the helicopter accelerated to 90 knots.

Aircraft shooting adds motion, height differences, and lead requirements that make hits far harder than on a static range.
