Texas Senate candidate James Talarico, a Democrat, said in a recently recirculated recording that Christianity, Islam, and other faiths all reach the same underlying reality. He named God, Yahweh, Allah, Nirvana, and the Great Spirit as labels people apply to that reality.

He has spoken this way before. In a 2021 Texas House prayer he cited the Torah, Quran, Gita, Dharma, and the First Epistle of John and closed by addressing the divine under many names. He has also described Christianity as the most violent religion, said it harmed Islam more than any other faith, stated that God is beyond gender, and argued the Bible does not address abortion.
