A referee at a Missouri high school football game Thursday night physically took hold of Glendale wide receiver Joelle Rover after Rover scored against Kickapoo and performed a kick-style dance associated with Michael Jackson. The official then yelled at Rover, who lifted his arms as they argued. Glendale coach Frank Tristan yelled at another official that the referee should not put hands on the player and should address the coach.
The Missouri State High School Activities Association suspended the official with no ending date after becoming aware, communications director Andrew Kauffman said. Springfield Public Schools, overseeing both Glendale and Kickapoo, asked the association to look into the events because of concern, communications officer Stephen Hall said.
