Two thousand nine hundred seventy seven drone lights rose over New York on Wednesday to represent every person killed in the September 11 2001 attacks carried out by al Qaeda. The lights then formed the shapes of the Twin Towers.

The Sky Elements display started on Governors Island beside the yearly Tribute of Light and was created with families of victims, survivors, and first responders. Videos posted online showed the former World Trade Center outline rebuilt in the sky while the Ground Zero memorial stayed untouched. The event came two days before the twenty fifth anniversary.
