Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts told an MS NOW All In audience on Monday that Congress should enact basic artificial intelligence rules at once.

She said political pressure now exists for lawmakers to assemble initial limits. Warren separated longer-term work on serious problems in the field from the near-term chance of grave harm that could arrive quickly.

She urged Congress to skip creating a new panel and instead approve substantial restrictions the president could sign if he does not block the effort. Warren said he resists such rules because they offer him no personal financial benefit.
