Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller said on Friday’s NewsNation Now that ICE raids this week at three Kansas packing plants will raise beef prices for consumers.

Imported beef has not lowered hamburger prices, according to Miller, while large packers profit from cheaper purchases sold at unchanged rates and ranchers receive three hundred to five hundred dollars less per head. Closures caused unsold cattle, lower rancher returns, thinner grocery stocks, and higher shopper prices.

When Trump entered office, dairy arrests interrupted milking until Miller and other agriculture commissioners objected and the effort shifted away from those workers toward criminals. The Kansas raids in Garden City, Liberal, and Dodge City created a similar disruption that raises grocery beef prices rather than reducing them, Miller said, and does not help lower costs.
