President Donald Trump posted a Columbus Day greeting on Truth Social on Sunday, one day before the holiday. He called the date important for Italian Americans and for Italy.
He said Democrats, socialists and communists on the left had earlier gone through cities and towns taking down Columbus statues, but that activity had stopped and the monuments had been put back.
On Friday he said left-aligned communists oppose Columbus and keep trying to end the holiday. He named Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed as someone who wants the day abolished and referred to him as Mohammed.
