Trump Encourages Canadian Companies to Move to U.S.

Listen to Article

President Donald Trump urged Canadian firms that trade with the United States to relocate their operations there at once, promising they would face no import duties after doing so. He made the appeal Sunday on Truth Social and said many such businesses had departed years earlier because of earlier United States leadership.

During a Wednesday interview on the Glenn Beck Program, Trump called Canada among the most difficult nations to work with and said it had exploited the United States for decades.

On Monday he announced that 50 percent duties would apply from January 1, 2027, to Canadian cars, trucks of all sizes, auto parts and steel. He cited a long-running 60 billion dollar trade imbalance and Canadian levies that he said had harmed American farmers.
